Course Content

The practical learning programme is delivered via a mixture of classroom activities, simulated learning opportunities, lots of practical poolside based learning sessions and practical teaching within a live learn to swim programme. We strive for all our learners to #bemore and have the skills needed for their vocational role, so our courses value lots of practical experience in the poolside environment.

Once you have successfully achieved this qualification, you are eligible to apply for roles as an assistant teacher through employment or volunteering opportunities. Working with other others, and with more experienced and qualified senior, level 2 teachers will give you great experience and learning to develop and flourish in your role. To continue your learning journey, you could; complete some formal CPD workshops, or online CPD Webinars offered by ICON, continue your qualifications with other ASA qualifications, Active IQ Fitness qualifications, RLSS Lifeguarding, another sport entirely or progress onto the ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher (RQF).

You must be at least 16 years of age at the point of registration and should be comfortable to swim and participate yourself in the water. There are no other formal entry requirements for this qualification and learners are not required to have any teaching experience, although we advise shadowing or observing some local lessons so you have prior insight into the role of a swimming teacher.
