This apprenticeship is for planning, leading and coaching physical activities for people of all ages in the community.
Apprentices without level 1 English and Maths will need to gain this level and take the test for Level 2 English and Maths prior to the end point assessment in their apprenticeship. Successful completers of this apprenticeship will be able to move into leadership or management roles within the sector.
The Community Activator Coach Standard will underpin occupations such as the following:
• Sports Coach
• Activity Leader
• Community Worker
• Outreach Officer
These roles are predominantly employed the companies in the sports and physical activity sector such as leisure centres, sports clubs, youth work agencies, outdoor education centres etc.
This qualification delivers and coaches fun and engaging activities that help communities adopt and keep to a physically active lifestyle. The apprentice will be able to understand the benefits of physical activity and sport for individuals, groups and families and also know the importance of effective leadership and coaching. They will be able to build rapport with customers and become a great role model. They will also be able to support customer welfare and manage disruptive behaviours when needed. They will also be able to use appropriate social media to deliver targeted messages to identified customer groups. They’ll know customer motivations for participation and how to help people overcome personal and societal barriers to participation, and how to coach and lead the key components of a successful activity sessions for a range of audiences.

English and Maths – Apprentices without level 1 English and Maths will need to achieve this level and take the test for level 2 English and maths prior to the end point assessment.
Duration – The Apprenticeship will take 14-18 months to complete.
Professional recognition: On successful completion of the Standard, all Apprentices will be automatically given CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) at Associate Membership level.
Progression – Successful completers will be able to move into leadership or management roles within the Sector which may be aligned to an Apprenticeship at higher level. This progression will involve leading teams of people; acting as a mentor for staff; or specialising with the delivery of sporting and physical activity programmes to certain populations or communities.
