ICON Training Delivers on Rugby365 Apprenticeships

ICON Training, supported by England Rugby (RFU), has begun to deliver on a widescale apprenticeship initiative as part of the Rugby365 scheme.

Chester RFC, Preston Grasshoppers, Billingham RFC and Aylesbury RFC are just some of the clubs Icon has been working closely with to recruit keen talent with a passion for a career in rugby.

What is Rugby365?

The Rugby 365 project is the RFU’s single biggest investment into community rugby. The initiative has seen the development of artificial grass pitches in clubs across the UK, with a view to making rugby more accessible.

Icon will be operating its apprenticeship programme under the Rugby365 scheme. The aim is to develop the skills of enthusiastic individuals who can support the Rugby365 programme on their site, whilst also developing individuals who can help support the clubs’ day-to-day operation.

The first apprentice to be employed under the scheme has been allocated a place with Aylesbury RFC. Throughout his apprenticeship, Harry will be working on an Activity Leadership Programme, which will involve supporting the club in managing their 3G grass pitch installation.

About the scheme

The Rugby365 initiative is designed to make rugby more accessible to more people in the community and aims to allow clubs to offer Health-&-Wellbeing-related activities such as rugby, football and other outdoor sports all year round. Icon Training says: ‘It will encourage engagement of the local community with rugby.’

Working with the support of the RFU, an apprentice will become multi-skilled and able to support the club’s day to day operations in areas including artificial grass pitch upkeep, customer service/front of house, host club outreach, secondary spend, cleaning & maintenance, coaching and much more.

Thanks to the hard work of RFU and ICON Training, high-quality, tailored apprenticeships are being provided that can support and complement the clubs and can enable them to employ local people in local jobs, whilst also creating a long-term career for the apprentices in the partner rugby football club.
